State Duma passes bill extending bailiffs’ interstate search powers

16:00 18/04/2019

MOSCOW, April 18 (RAPSI) – The State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, passed a bill regulating powers of court bailiffs as concerns interstate search of people avoiding execution of judgments in the third and final reading on Thursday.

The bill authorizes bailiffs to conduct enforcement and search activities along with foreign authoritative bodies and request them for required information.

The initiative is aimed at the efficiency improvement of people’s search.

Amendments drafted by the Justice Ministry of Russia are proposed to the law on bailiffs.

In December 2010, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) signed a treaty on the interstate search for wanted individuals.

This March, President Vladimir Putin signed a bill authorizing courts to issue arrest warrants in absentia for persons put not only on the international wanted list but on the CIS interstate one as well into law.
