MOSCOW, September 10 (RAPSI) – The Gagarinsky District Court of Moscow on Monday sentenced CEO of the Russian footwear company Datse Group Smbat Arutyunyan to 3.5 years in a penal colony as part of a fraud case involving ex-Deputy chief of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) Oleg Korshunov, RAPSI correspondent reports from the courtroom.

In addition, the defendant was fined 500,000 rubles ($7,100). He admitted his guilt in full and his case was reviewed under a special procedure as a result.

The court found that the damage caused by Arutyunyan and his accomplices reached 250 million rubles ($3.5 million).

According to Arutyunyan, he worked with Korshunov to get a state contract on supply of footwear to inmates in penal colonies. The defendant admitted that he used subpar materials and used prison labor to produce cheaper goods, resulting in 100 million rubles ($1.4 million) savings. Arutyunyan added that Korshunov requested a bribe worth 300,000 euros. The defendant transferred the money and provided evidence to law enforcement.

Earlier, the Basmanny District Court seized the property belonging to the relatives of Korshunov.

The court seized a car of Korshunov’s daughter, his ex-wife’s Moscow apartment and a motor boat owned by his friend.

Korshunov is also involved in another criminal case over state contracts. Investigators claim that the former official organized signing of two government contracts on delivery of fuels and lubricants and food products at an overvalued price between 2015 and 2016. Actions of Korshunov and his accomplices allegedly caused a 160-million-ruble damage ($2.2 million) to the FSIN. He pleaded not guilty.
